Sanford’s rich history dates back to the mid 1700’s when the Timacuan Indians and later the Seminole Indians, inhabited and thrived on the shores of Lake Monroe. Until 1940, agriculture dominated Sanford’s economy, specifically celery crops, thus nicknaming the town Celery City.

It retains many of the historical neighborhoods and downtown area while blending them with all the good of the new.
